Glengarry Community Woodlands was formed in 2016 to purchase what is today the community woodlands. Since then, the organisation has acquired additional land and is now involved in numerous community development projects, including affordable housing, woodland crofts and the sustainable management of our woodland resources.
We are formed as a Development Trust and a Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable status. Our membership is primarily drawn from residents of the geographical area of Glengarry, though we can accept Associate Members from other areas.
Our purposes is to advance sustainable community development; organising educational & recreational activities; and advancing environmental protection or improvement. To meet this remit, we organise a variety of events and clubs, hold consultations on community development projects and, in 2022, launched the Glengarry Forest Cabin enterprise, which will see six cabins installed in the community woods as off-grid accommodation.
