The heart of the Community Woodlands is The Old Depot, just outside Invergarry village, beside the A87. Here, we organise a range of events, classes, and clubs for local residents of all ages as well as visitors. Our events are free of charge and geared towards letting attendees experience aspects of the woodland and woodland management in practical ways.

Beside activities, the community also benefits from our sustainable, ecologically focused management of the woodland, which yields a high biodiversity habitat right beside our village, and supports our Firewood Business.

COME ALONG

GCW hosts regular volunteering events every other Friday. Volunteers meet at the Depot every second Friday between 9.30 AM- 1.30 PM.

Activities range widely from clearing brush wood to building nest boxes, from stacking timber to maintaining paths. You don’t need any special skills or equipment, just some sensible clothing to keep you warm and dry in the Glengarry weather. Where tools are required, we will provide them.

Two volunteers in midge nets are using secateurs to clear branches from a woodland path.

Volunteering like this is a great way of getting hands-on involved with the Community Woodlands, but it also is an opportunity to meet people, and experience the woodland throughout the season.

Four volunteers are gathered to build nest boxes. One is hammering, one is sawing, and two are looking on.
